As part of my travel kit, I loaded a number of free text documents to my PDA. I’ve learned to really enjoy reading in this format.
One of the books I’m reading now is “A Short History of the Baptists”, by Henry Vedder, which turns out to be a remarkable overview of Christian history - from an evangelical protestant perspective!
Like most free texts, this one is pretty old: published around the turn of the 19th century. It’s difficult to tell which typos are original, and which are the result of subsequent scanning or modern spell-checkers. One likely scanning error is the morphing of the letter combination ‘ri’ to an ‘n’.
Imagine my surprise to discover that the progenitor of the most widespread heresey faced by the early church was a bishop from Alexandria named “Anus”!
